544 Biological Relationships of Southern Ontario Woodland Peoples: The Evidence of Discontinuous Cranial Morphology
Molto, Joseph Eldon 1983 Soft VG Quarto
i-xviii; 396 pp.; A synthesis of biological relationships during the Woodland period of southern Ontario prehistory. The database consists of a battery of discontinuous nonmetric cranial traits which is used to compute C.A.B. Smith’s Mean Measure of Divergence (MMD) between 17 large (N>20 crania) Woodland samples. The research design tests a series of hypotheses formulated from a review of previous skeletal and archaeological studies in the research area. The main strategy is to eliminate those factors potentially biased toward producing Type I or Type II statistical errors and emphasize the selection of an appropriate battery of traits to compare the samples, since inappropriate data would ruin attempts to estimate biological distance from the start. 548 Moundville Revisited; Crystal River Revisted; Mounds of the Lower Chattahoochee and Lower Flint Rivers; Notes on the Ten Thousand Islands, Florida
Moore, Clarence B. Academy of Natural Sciences of Philaelphia 1907 Hard bound Half the backstrip is missing and the rest is badly chipped but the cover is still sound except for some rubbing on the corners and edges. There is a library code written in ink on the interior of the front cover. Mark Raymond Harrington's name is stamped on the front fly leaf. There is a card pocket inside the back cover. There is the blind stamp of the Museum of the American Indian Heye Foundation and the Huntington Library.
An interesting association item. This vol has M.R. Harrington's name stamped in it. George Heye bought Harrington's library when he accepted the advice of his archaeologists, including Harrington, that his foundation needed a research library. He later bought the C.B. Moore artifact collection from the Academy of Sciences of Philadelphia and he sent Harrington to follow up on Moore's work in Arkansas and on the Tennessee River. It is more than likely Moore gave this volume to Harrington, as it is an example of copies of his publications which he had bound in maroon hard covers for gifts.

575 Archaeology of the Lower Ohio River Valley
Muller, Jon 1986 Soft VG Small Quarto
i-xii; 307 pp.; Although it has been occupied for as long and possesses a mound-building tradition of considerable scale and interest, Muller contends that the archaeology of the lower Ohio River Valley, from the confluence with the Mississippi to the falls at Louisville, Kentucky remains less well-known that that of the elaborate mound-building cultures of the upper valley. This study provides a synthesis of archaeological work done in the region, emphasizing population growth and adaptation within an ecological framework in an attempt to explain the area's cultural evolution. 592 The Mesa Verde World: Explorations in Ancestral Pueblo Archaeology
Noble, David Grant (editor) 2006 Hard As new As new Quarto
Book autographed by David Grant Noble i-xi; 182 pages. Book autographed by David Grant Noble. Mesa Verde, with its stunning landscapes and cliff dwellings, evokes all the romance of American archaeology. It has intrigued researchers and visitors for more than a century. But “Mesa Verde” represents more than cliff dwellings―its peoples created a culture that thrived for a thousand years in Southwestern Colorado and southeastern Utah. Archaeologists have discovered dozens of long-buried hamlets and villages spread for miles across the Great Sage Plain west and north of Mesa Verde. Only lately have these sites begun to reveal their secrets. In recent decades, archaeologists have been working intensively in the Mesa Verde region to build the story of its ancestral Pueblo inhabitants. The Mesa Verde World showcases new findings about the region’s prehistory, environment, and archaeological history, from newly discovered reservoir systems on Mesa Verde to astronomical alignments at Yellow Jacket Pueblo. 600 Archaeological Salvage Excavations at the Tibbee Creek Site (22Lo600), Lowndes County, Mississippi
O'Hear, John W. Clark Larsen, Margaret M. Scarry, John Phillips, Erica Simons 1981 Soft VG Quarto
i-xii; 251 pp.; This multicomponent site was located on Tibbee Creek in the floodplain of the Tombigbee River, at the western edge of the floodplain. Archaeological components ranging from the early portion of the Gulf Formational stage at approximately 1000 B.C. through the Mississippian stage dating about A.D. 1200 were present at the site. The indications are that the site locale functioned as a transitory camp during the Gulf Formational stage as well as through the later Miller I and II phases of the Middle Woodland period. The most intensive occupation of the site occurred during the late Woodland Miller III phase. Two house structures, several burials, and a large number of cooking/storage pits associated with the Miller III component were found during the excavations. The indications are that the site functioned as a base camp during Miller III. The final prehistoric component present at the Tibbee Creek site was a Mississippian farmstead which is assignable to the Lyon's Bluff phase and is closely aligned with the Moundville phase. Major features of this Mississippian component are a large wall trench house with 72 sq m of floor area, a group of 11 burials, nine of which were in a planned cemetery, and a number of ancillary pit features. Floral and faunal analyses are included. Book is illustrated with diagrams, drawings and tables
