The subject of the volume is the discovery of North America as seen, experienced, and recorded by Europeans from the earliest vaguely reported transatlantic voyages to the establishment of permanent settlement in the first third of the seventeenth century. The selections and the accompanying illustrations are limited to those written or made in the period of discovery up to c. 1634. Were it not for the fact this book was mass produced it would cost and be worth much more.
